About PlantEnergyKit
Free, transparent calculators for the people who keep industrial plants running and try to make them use less energy.
Who builds it
PlantEnergyKit is built by a practicing electrical engineer in industrial maintenance, working on high-voltage substations, plant electrical rooms and energy management systems aligned with ISO 50001.
The same calculations come up again and again in that work: what a compressed air leak costs, how big a capacitor bank needs to be, whether a variable speed drive will pay back. They usually end up rebuilt in a spreadsheet each time. This site puts them in one place, done carefully, for anyone to use.
How the calculators are checked
- Every calculator uses published engineering methods, and the formula is written out on its page.
- Each one is tested against a hand calculation and, where available, a published reference table.
- Assumptions and limits are stated plainly, including where the method overestimates or underestimates.
What the results are for
The results are estimates for screening ideas and ranking projects. Before a significant investment, confirm them with measurements on your own equipment and with your suppliers' data.
